《人不能再次感受同一身體》是由錄像、音響及混合媒介組成的裝置藝術,意念源自水,一種藝術家在帶領冥想時經常提到的元素。 水,是人體必不可缺的,也是我們賴以生存的衡常變數。水能令人放鬆,精神煥發,它使人聯想到純潔、平靜、和生機,因而出現在多種文化的不同儀式之中。從靈性和科學角度而言,水不斷改變的形態代表了物質和幻境世界的各種形體。 藝術家利用水去表現「處在當下」的感覺—到底人的身體從哪一點開始,又伸延到何處?我們對身心的「自我」又了解多少?若能做到處在當下,我們就可觀察我們的大生態系統並與之連繫,宏觀地察看自身的內在和外在。若將這份處在當下的感覺應用到充滿壓力的工作間,我們則能對不停改變的「當下」有更敏銳的洞察力,使思考變得更清晰。在表演的錄像中,骶骨輪佔有相當大的比重。在脈輪之中,骶骨輪由歡悅推動,常與水被聯想到一起。它能調節情緒健康、創意、性,以及情緒渴求的表達。 作品運用辦公室常見的飲水機—一個讓人們在忙碌的工作環境中能夠稍作抽離、與其他人短聚的地方。同時出現的雙重影像,促使參觀者思考處身於大生態系統中的「自我」,探究其界限到底為何。 錄像的設置以窗外的香港城市天際線作背景,畫面播放著人、植物和地貌的縮影。同時出現的聲音節取自用以釋放臍輪受阻能量的發聲練習實驗。兩者並置於一處,引發參觀者的抽象浮想,鼓勵他們深思,免於受固定解讀所約束。藝術品的持續性將吸引參觀者坐下,沉浸在聲音和影像中,遊走於構成意識的內外景觀之間。 / 創作團隊 | 藝術家: Shane Aspegren | 演譯者: Lo Ka-yan Kaya Law Yuen-yiu Benjamin | 錄像製作: Ng Tsz-kwan Erkka Nissinen Shek Ka-lok Wesker Tung Hil-lam Byron | 特別鳴謝: yU+co.[lab]
“ONE CAN NEVER ENTER THE SAME BODY TWICE”
“One Can Never Enter the Same Body Twice” is a video, sound, and mixed-media installation conceived around the theme of water, an element the artist often refers to in his guided meditations. Water, essential to the human form and a constant variable in our existence, is refreshing and rejuvenating. It is associated with purity, calmness, and vitality, and is used in rituals across cultures. From both spiritual and scientific perspectives, water is constantly shapeshifting, embodying different forms across the physical and ethereal realms. In this artwork, water is an expression of presence, of existence – at what point does the body begin and end? How much do we understand our bodymind “self”? Being present allows us to observe and connect with our greater ecosystem, taking a macro perspective to the inner and outer. In the context of the stressful workplace, connecting with this presence heightens the awareness of our ever-changing nowness, and offers clarity of mind. In the video’s performance, the Svadhishthana (Sacral) Chakra plays a prominent role. Motivated by pleasure and associated to water, the Sacral Chakra regulates emotional well-being, creativity, sexuality and the expression of emotional needs and desires. The installation’s minimal set up consists of a water cooler, a staple object in an office. The water cooler is known as a meeting place for the people in a hectic office environment – a space away from work. This piece’s double-view allows visitors to contemplate the boundaries of their own perception of the “self” within the larger ecosystem. The imagery in the video plays with the miniature landscapes of human, plant, and earth-forms, set against the landscape of the Hong Kong skyline that is on view from the window. Simultaneously, the audio reimagines extracts from vocalization experiments attempting to unblock stuck energy in the Svadhishthana Chakra. Within these juxtapositions, the viewer is encouraged to contemplate any abstract narrations that may arise, without becoming locked into any fixed interpretation. 跨媒介藝術家Shane Aspergren 以音樂及音效創作著稱。他探討意識、社會動態和知覺——這些主題是他的裝置作品、圖像及表演的重要構成部分。近年,他大部分作品都聚焦於冥想訓練,特別對聲音對人類思想的影響,及生物的物質組成部分感興趣。 作品在世界各地均有獲邀約、收藏和演出,包括大館當代美術館、西九文化區、Para Site藝術空間、K11藝術基金會、威尼斯雙年展、紐約惠特尼美國藝術博物館、深圳楊鋒藝術與教育基金會、上海滬申畫廊、紐約古根漢美術館,及米蘭王宮。 藝術家創辦ONDO作為聲音冥想體驗平台。他目前居於洛杉磯。
Shane Aspegren is a cross-disciplinary artist, largely known for his practices related to music and sound. He explores topics of consciousness, societal dynamics, and perception – themes that often play an integral part in his installations, imageries, and performances. In recent years, a large part of his work has focused on meditative practices - specifically the effects of sound on the human mind and physical matter of living beings. His work has been commissioned, collected, and performed internationally, including at Tai Kwun Contemporary; WKCD; Para Site Art Space; K11 Art Foundation; Venice Biennale; Whitney Museum in New York; Frank F. Yang Art and Education Foundation in Shenzhen; Shanghai Gallery of Art; Guggenheim Museum in New York, and Palazzo Reale in Milan. He is the founder of ONDO, a platform for his holistic sound practice. He currently lives in Los Angeles.
