“WORKS AND DAYS”
In “Works and Days”, Wy Lee reveals her art-making process in front of the visitors. Though never been an office worker before, the artist discovers much in common between her work life and those in an office. Both are subject to high - sometimes unreasonable – expectations because artists are supposed to be productive and should be able to come up with quality artworks regularly. The repetitive tasks, overwork and overload are also similar. The artwork questions the meaning of work, as the artist strives to remain positive.
The set up is similar to an artist residency. The artist is stationed at the venue throughout the entire exhibition period, working with a straight schedule, clocking in and out on time just like an office worker. Employing clay as her primary medium, she tries to overcome the repetitiveness by using tools new or familiar to her, such as a throwing wheel and paintbrushes, to make a series of new artworks with variety.
In specific experience sessions, visitors will become her “colleagues” and participate in the creative process. As they concentrate on the hand-built process, they will find themselves focused, casting aside the troubles of everyday life.

Wy Lee graduated from the Academy of Visual Arts at Hong Kong Baptist University with a bachelor’s degree in 2016. She co-founded the pottery workshop Toki Nashiki in the same year, using exclusively formulated glazes to produce beautiful yet highly functional pottery vessels for daily use. Wy is keen for her artistic creations to bring about reflections on life, and introduce a ritualistic experience through her ceramic wares during tea sites. She sees her works as art pieces with practical purposes that also serve to enhance users’ well-being and inner awareness.
